Rick Santorum Finally Drops Out of 2012 Presidential Race

From Prune Juice Media- The time has come and the Lord has heard our cries.

Rick Santorum, former Pennsylvania senator, has “suspended” his notoriously second place GOP presidential campaign. In English, it means he is dropping out of the race. But, for the legal folks, it allows him to still raise money and use some federal funds to wrap up his campaign.

According to Santorum, he sat on the news of his departure before sharing it with the public:

“We made a decision over the weekend that this presidential race is over for me,” he said at a presser on Tuesday, according to Think Progress.

“We will suspend our campaign effective today,” the former candidate added.

EARTH TO RICK SANTORUM! We already knew it was over for you sir…

His campaign was marked by a strange jolt of energy in January after the Iowa caucuses. He connected with true conservative voters far better than front-runner Romney. From there, he went on to do a stunning upset in the Feb. 7 Colorado, Missouri, and Minnesota races. But, he couldn’t seem to find his first-place footing, even after cleaning up in many of the Southern and Heartland races.

A series of gaffes, notably one where he called President Obama “a snob” for encouraging college education, didn’t help him. He was also caught in a brief controversy about whether or not he may have begun to use the N-word to describe Obama during a live speech.

People have been waiting for months for one of the three candidates behind Mitt Romney in the delegate race to bow out. But, NONE of them would.

In recent days, Santorum had a “meeting” with advisers in Virginia supposedly discussing how to win the Pennsylvania primary on April 24. Those close to that meeting stressed that the idea of Santorum quitting never crossed their minds. As I said in my post that day, they would have been stupid NOT to consider that idea.

Then, Santorum’s youngest daughter, Bella, became ill on April 6 and was taken to the hospital. The candidate halted all campaign activities while he and his family spent time with the three-year-old.

Bella was released from the hospital on April 10. But, within hours of Santorum announcing new campaign events, he dropped the big news.

Within minutes of his announcement, tacky Newt Gingrich was begging Santorum’s supporters tovote for him and donate their money to his campaign. He and the other candidates did congratulate Santorum on a race well run.

Believe me, this is NOT the last you’ll see of Rick Santorum. He will at some point PROBABLY endorse Mitt Romney. There is also a lingering chance he could show up on the VP slot of the ticket a few months from now. Who knows?

But for now, we can all be comforted that the campaign is moving forward. Now when the hell are Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul going to drop out? *glares at both of them*

What do you think of the news that Rick Santorum is “suspending” his campaign?
