You Need More People: Mary J. Blige & Burger King Responds To ‘Chicken Wrap’ Commercial

The internet has been abuzz for the past day over Mary J. Blige and her infamous Burger King commercial. Blogs have updated stories criticizing MJB and Burger King. Now reports have surfaced from Mary J. Blige saying she never signed off on the controversial fried chicken ad- at least not the version that ‘leaked’ on the Internet.
Mary J. tells TMZ , “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip.”
Mary also says, “I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out.”
The ad continues to receive mixed reviews from viewers, garnering mostly negative attention from the African American community given Blige’s strong reputation in the community as a black woman who has overcome immense tribulations and the commercial’s perpetuation of the “black people love fried chicken” stereotype.
Burger King has taken down the commercial from YouTube and continues to pull them at every chance. Mary J. Blige wasn’t the only celebrity working with Burger King. Jay Leno and Salma Hayek also appear in new Burger King commercials promoting the snack wrap, as well as a strawberry-banana smoothie and a salad. David Beckham’s commercial focuses just on the smoothie.
Burger King confirms the ad was released prematurely “before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained.” The fast food giant also says, “We would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final.”
Right… Sorry guys, we don’t believe any of you!
