“First Lady Of That G.O.O.D Sh–!,” Teyana Taylor tweeted yesterday of her signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, finally putting months of speculation to rest.
The signing shouldn’t come as a major surprise to Teyana Taylor or Kanye West fans as the 21-year-old rapper/singer-songwriter and actress worked with West on three tracks (“Hell of a Life,” “Runaway,” and “Dark Fantasy”) for his fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Earlier this year, Teyana was released from her deal with Interscope/Star Trak Records, which lasted six years. While the deal seemed to stunt her ability to grow as an artist in the limelight of the industry, Teyana used the time and her connections to explore her talents in other ventures, including acting and song-writing, and says the separation ended on good terms:
Everybody bowed out gracefully. There was no beef. I love Interscope, I love Star Trak. It’s always love for Pharrell; that’s my big brother. Now it’s time for me to go from a caterpillar to a butterfly. I had to fly away from the nest and venture out on my own.
Teyana hasn’t released any information regarding her G.O.O.D. Music debut album, but with a current buzz around her recent mixtape, The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor, there is no time better than the near future.
