Raise The Flag: Four Black Gays Living The American Dream

Keith Boykin

Boykin’s resume could put half of the U.S. Congress to shame; Harvard Law grad, author, international activist – not to mention looking good doing it. His presence commands attention and forces people to listen, which is probably why he’s a frequent contributor to print and television outlets alike, such as CNN, MSNBC, and the New York Times. During the Clinton administration, Boykin was the highest-ranking gay person in the White House, and is credited for facilitating the country’s first meeting between LGBT leaders and a U.S. president.

Very interesting mainstream choices. I could only imagine the hard time developing this list. We don’t have many in the public eye. Hopefully things change for our future.

I’m influenced most by the legacy and remarkable history of James Baldwin and Bayard Rustin.
