Raise The Flag: Four Black Gays Living The American Dream

Don Lemon

Lemon is one of our favorite faces on CNN, with his boyish looks and passion for the the day’s news. His story of sexual abuse made headlines everywhere, and his 2001 memoir, Transparent, criticized the homophobic tendencies of African Americans.  Lemon was one of the first CNN faces to publicly express his sexuality, and paved the way for fellow CNN anchor, Anderson Cooper, to “officially” come out to The Daily Beast‘s Andrew Sullivan earlier this week.

Who are some black gay and lesbians that inspire you? Let us know!

I’m influenced most by the legacy and remarkable history of James Baldwin and Bayard Rustin.
