Still Believe Target Is Anti-Gay? Company Plans To Sell Same-Sex Themed Greeting Cards
After allegations of Target being anti-gay, the company has just rolled out plans to combat that information. Now the retail giant is planning to release same-sex themed greeting cards.
Placed on card racks under the headings of “For two special men” and “For two special women,” the cards are adorned with phrases such as “Mr. & Mr.” and “Two very special women, one very special love,” according to sources.
Target representatives say the cards are reflective of their appreciation for diversity and inclusivity. Target offers a range of greeting cards that appeal to a variety of audiences, including the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, spokeswoman Molly Snyder said.
“Target is focused on diversity and inclusivity,” she said.
Last week, Target was in the news for not selling Frank Ocean’s album “channel ORANGE.” Rumors and reports leaked stating that it was because Target did not want to support Ocean and his recent decision to open up about his sexuality. The company responded to the insinuations saying that the claims were false. They also alluded to their longstanding tradition of supporting music and artistry that reflects the diverse landscape of American culture.
The cards are made by Carlton Cards, a unit of American Greetings, whose spokeswoman Patrice Sadd said the company and Target jointly decided to offer “wedding cards relevant for everyone.” The cards are believed to hit shelves sometime this summer.
