Kanye West and Kim Kardashian- Why Do We Care?

I’ll admit: I am one who’s been faithfully reading and otherwise following the news surrounding this relationship between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. I’ve listened to the ranging opinions of others, some of whom are rooting for these two, and others who loathe the idea. So let’s really get down to why we, as a celebrity-obsessed society, are so consumed with this relationship.

Disclosure: I am a fan of both Kim and Kanye. I watch Keeping up with the Kardashians faithfully, I follow their blogs and read updates on their lives every chance I get – not in a religious way, but more so as people of interest.  Similarly, I’ve been listening to Kanye West’s music since he first burst onto the scene. There was a time when I wasn’t allowed to listen to most rappers, but Kanye was one of a select few whom were allowed. I’ve developed an up-and-down relationship with the both of them, which led to me understanding the good and bad things about this relationship.

Based on my personal opinion and perspectives from other people, I’ve made a few observations own.

Opposites Attract – Talent vs. No Talent

The Kardashians are of the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie vein: “famous for being famous.” Despite their obviously shrewd (and lucrative) business ventures, some people question why someone like Kim is worthy of all this attention when all she’s known for is a sex tape and a reality show. From incessant media attention to a loyal fan base of wannabes, Kim Kardashian is treated like a pop star in many ways. Sharp contrast from Kanye West, who some would consider one of the most visionary rappers of our time. He entertains his audience with (mostly) substantive music, all of which comes from his beautiful, dark, twisted mind. So there’s little debate to why people question how the two are compatible.

I am not surprised by this. I think they look good together. They both love attention, so it works. I am just waiting on my Kimye moment.

Yeah. No one will love Kim more than Kim loves herself and no one will love Kanye more than he loves himself. Match made in heaven.
